One of the saddest times in any child's life is
when for some reason they think one or both or
their parents are going to be taken from them. In
the mid-nineties on one of their tours Naomi Judd
announced to the world that she had hepatitis and
would retire from the country music business.
Leaving her daughter Wynonna to sing on her own for
the first time in her life.
I'm sure Wynonna could have easily packed her bags
and headed back to some small town in Kentucky where
she came from, however she didn't. While difficult
as it may have been Wynonna, through some of the
toughest times in her life, picked up the pieces of
her life and continued what her mother and her had
started many years before. In some ways this may
remind us of how eagles push their young out of
the nest teaching them to fly.
Just like the mother eagle pushes her young out of
the nest, don't you think Jesus
does the same thing to us? He pushes us out of our
nest to see if we will have faith to fly. Our
natural reaction is to just hide under some wing
of protection of ours that we made up in our minds
in hopes that life doesn't send us downward into
something that we can't handle or pushes us out of
our little comfort zones. Only to cry for our
mother to save us. So we crawl back into our
nests and say, that God doesn't care or life is
not fair. Just the opposite of what Jesus really
wants us to do.
Most of the time when we feel
like this is because we are just being selfish and
only thinking of ourselves and the devil has
tricked us into thinking we are not worthy enough
for God's grace. You see, the mother eagle didn't
push her young out because she doesn't care for
them, she does it because she loved them. Naomi
Judd didn't wish this upon herself, yet she used
it to help others around her to grow and fly. She
also did it out of love.
In the midst of Wynonna's darkest moment instead of
crawling into her shell and hiding under her
mothers wings of protection she wrote this song.
Or maybe in your darkest moment instead of
thinking of yourself, think of Jesus writing this
song for you.
"Love Can Build a Bridge"
I'd gladly walk across the desert
With no shoes upon my feet
To share with you the last bite
Of bread I had to eat
I would swim out to save you
In your sea of broken dreams
When all your hopes are sinkin
Let me show you what love means
Chorus
Love can build a bridge
Between your heart an mine
Love can build a bridge
Don't you think it's time?
Don't you think it's time?
The next time you just want to crawl in your hole
and hide under some false protection ask yourself,
"Don't you think its time to build that bridge of
Love, don't you think it's time?
